First Character Design Sketches for Mobile Game

After many, many, tutorials and practice game applications I felt ready to start working on my own game. Unfortunately, one doesn’t really realize all the aspects of what goes in to making an indie game from sitting on the side lines. As I considered the scope of my personal game I needed to focus on one of my favorite parts of game design is developing an idea. The root, the source, the foundation, the canonized story from which all other ideas spring.

To help eliminate some aspects of over scoping I wanted to make the character and setting relativly simple yet tapping into what I enjoy, Halloween.

Everyone loves Christmas and I do as well but Halloween is probably one of my favorite times of year. Though I may enjoy the some of the aspects of horror the real joy derives from all them magical and fantastical creatures, monsters, and stories which surround this holiday.

Reviewing what resources I already had at my disposal along with a possible story and scope Candy Corn Sticker and had success getting them into the App Store.

As I consider the possibilities for my game which now included Candy Corns, I finally arrived at the idea all humans are all to familiar with fear. And, uniquely some of the strangest fears derive from simple harmless bugs. So using the already used Candy Corn assets, which you really should go purchase now, here, I jumped into doing some character design sketches of creatures or bugs for this newly developed world.

My first course of action as it always is, is to develop something completely new but something you feel like you have always seen.

WordPress Blogging Trials and Errors

Running your own blog site comes with a variety of challenges. There are so many details that have to be tracked and noted and followed up with.

Amazingly Strange currently uses Godaddy to host our this business webpage. Is the Godaddy the best for doing what we are trying to do? Maybe not. But we really want to spend more time make fun video games and artwork.

I am actually going to post many elements that I have to keep track of right here in this blog. This way I can keep track of it and you can hopefully learn from my mistakes. Even better, if you are reading this post you can follow us on twitter and start a dialogue. There we can share ideas that hopefully benefit everyone.

Many descisions have to be made in order to start a video game, especially if you are new to Object-oriented programming (OOP). However I have far more experience in the realm of artwork.

In this grayscale image, my first step was to have some fun playing with shapes and light and dark values. The goal for this piece of artwork was to establish the a foundation for the rest of the artwork and assets for this simple indie game to build from.

As I was blocking in these shapes, I had already established the candy corn stickers which I was wanting carry over into this project. Candy Corn is a great reminder to days past of Halloween. Along with Halloween comes so many wonderful and magic environments, even though they may be a bit creepy.

Keeping the artwork simple is always important when pulling together and new idea that you are wanting to share with others.

Apple Connect Test Flight Approval

Candy Corn Mobile Game Test Flight Build
Candy Corn Mobile Game Test Flight Build

Today was a super large milestone for Amazingly Strange. Candy Corn Critters our first indie Mobile Video Game has been approved by Apple to be Test Flighted. This build definitely requires a lot of polish however it tells me as a game developer that this initial build has at least passed the initial round of requirements need to eventually be approved for sale in the Apple App Store.

This early working version of the game has only been released to our family members. Still at this stage and with the feedback I have already received our little iOS video game still requires a lot programming development however this build is a huge indie game developer success for our small group of Beta Testers to sink their teeth into.

Amazingly Strange says, Hello World!

The ‘Hello World’ test is usually the very first any programmer or web developer creates to help establish the foundation of all the tools one is about to build upon.

So it is fitting that as we begin this blog that we say, “Hello World!”

As Amazingly Strange grows we hope these post will help humanize and reflect the journey we here at Amazingly Strange are experiencing. Even better we hope to use this blog to share our story as we create the art and apps of Amazingly Strange. By posting here our dream wish is to strive to create fans who will grow to appreciate the art, stories, programs and apps we are sharing.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post and joining us on an Amazingly Strange journey.

Best wishes,
Brian Lindahl
